Lifeguards FAQ’s:

What is the minimum age to be a lifeguard?

You must be 15 years or older to be a lifeguard

How much money will I make?

Salary varies depending on age and experience

What are my job responsibilities?

  1. You are responsible for the safety of all the patrons at the pool. You must sit in the lifeguard stand, watch the water to prevent injuries, and be able to perform proper safety techniques in the event of an emergency
  2. You are responsible for checking water chemistry and reporting problems with the pool immediately so the proper corrections can be made
  3. You are responsible for keeping your pool clean. This includes straightening furniture, picking up trash and toys around the pool deck, emptying all trash cans around the pool, cleaning and stocking bathrooms
  4. You are responsible for having a friendly attitude toward members of the pool and treating all members with the utmost respect

How do I become a certified lifeguard?

Sweetwater lifeguards need to carry American Red Cross lifeguard/first aid certification as well as CPR for the professional rescuer. The lifeguard certification is valid for three years while the CPRO is good for one year from date of completion of the class. What does it cost to get certified?

Certifications vary depending on where you go for your certification. The average cost is $200.00.

Does Sweetwater accept any certification other than Red Cross?

Yes, we also accept YMCA lifeguarding. We do not accept Ellis certification.

Do I have to get my certification before I come in for an interview?

No, you may come in for an interview and fill out all the necessary paperwork before completing your certification.

What do I need to bring in for my job interview?

  1. Driver’s License 
  2. Work Permit 
  3. Social Security Card (if you forget it make sure you know your number) 
  4. Lifeguard/CPR certification cards (if you are already certified)
