In order to be a lifeguard for
Sweetwater Pools you must complete and pass the StarGuard lifeguarding
course. The course uses a hands on teaching method called experiential
learning. Through this method you will participate in scenarios that
simulate situations similar to what you will experience on the job.
Experiential learning is one of the most effective ways to develop confidence
that carries over into real life situations.
The StarGuard lifeguarding course will teach you:

Strategies for maintaining vigilance and
providing surveillance in the aquatic environment
·
How to recognize, respond and provide emergency
care
·
CPR for the professional rescuer, AED, Bloodborne
pathogen procedures, and First Aid
·
Best practices for maximizing professionalism
and personal safe
Requirements - Participants Must:
- Be 16 years of age to attend the course (15 if approved by the Sweetwater
Staffing Director and Instructor)

Complete the on-line self study before attending the first day of class and
attend all training sessions
- Successfully complete a pre-course screening session which includes the following
•
Swim 100 yards, head up to sight for a victim (50 yards with rescue tube)
•
Tread water for 1 minute without the use of hands
•
Retrieve a 10 pound object off the bottom of the pool

Pass a written test with a score of at least 80%
